The name Curtiss Warhawk was used by the United States Army Air Corps for all Curtiss P-40 models however Curtiss P-40B and P-40C models were known as Curtiss Tomahawks and P-40D models were known as Curtiss Kittyhawks by British Commonwealth and Soviet air forces.
The P-40 Warhawk was numerically the most important American fighter aircraft at the time of Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
